Week 21 -- 1st Area -- 2nd Companion -- Hesperia, CA

October 27, 2014

Our investigators are doing good.  It has been a struggle getting the Hall family to come to church, as well as the Scott Family.

Ally is doing really good, she's reading and praying.  She has an amazing desire to learn and live the gospel!

I've been good.  I felt really sick on Saturday, but, I think it was because I had a really big lunch.

If you haven't already, you should totally go see "Meet the Mormons."  They showed it to all the missionaries right before it came out.  It is such a good movie!

One thing you should do is to read The Book of Mormon, it brings so much peace and comfort into my life.  I know it will for you too.

You can always ask Heavenly Father for help.  He wants to help everyone.  Remember that the sacrament is there to help us.  Make sure you're properly asking for forgiveness of sins you've committed.  Study the scriptures, they will help you tremendously!  Make sure you pray every morning and every night.  You will be blessed for doing it!  I love you so much!

Here are some pics of me and three other missionaries that came out with me.
Elder Coburn on my left was in my district in the MTC.
The two sisters were in another district.  We are all in the same zone right now.

Week 20 -- 1st Area -- 2nd Companion -- Hesperia, CA

October 20, 2014

This last week was pretty good, we had a good amount of people cancel on us and we ended up dropping in on a lot of people.

We got a new investigator.  She is super awesome.  Her name is Ally.  She's the girlfriend of a less active member in our Ward who is 19 years old.  Ally is probably around the same age or close.  She is a big reason why he's started going back to church.  Ally seems really interested in learning about what we believe in.  We've taught her the first lesson (The Restoration) and we'll be following up with her tomorrow about how her reading (of The Book of Mormon) is coming and how her praying is going.  She is super good at making Sushi.  We ate dinner with her boyfriend's family, who we've also been working with to get them going back to church.  And, we had sushi.  It was pretty good, but, I don't know if it's something I'll eat for a snack or for fun.

Everything else is pretty good.  I'm doing great!  I haven't gotten sick yet, so, I think I'm doing great!

Sorry about the short message.   Thanks for all the prayers.  I love all of you so much!

This is the room where we sleep and it's also where the kitchen is.
(We moved our beds out there because that room has the ac and the other room gets really hot.)

This is where we study.

This is our board where we keep track of who we're working with.

This is a map of our area.

Week 19 -- 1st Area -- 2nd Companion -- Hesperia, CA

October 13, 2014

This week has been pretty crazy!  We got five new missionaries in our zone.  They all seem to be pretty awesome!

A lot of our appointments cancelled on us or weren't home.  So, that's been really weird.  We've had to spend way too much time stopping on the side of the road to think of people we could drop by and visit.  We contacted a bunch of less actives and potential investigators on Friday, but, didn't have much luck.  This one guy, though, we rang the doorbell and when he answered the door I said, " Hi!  We're missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, does a Keyana live here?"  He then said something neither I or my companion could understand.  So I asked him if he'd be interested in being taught the lessons.  He started talking and we still couldn't understand him.  So, we ended up just leaving him a card.  That was pretty interesting.

One cool thing is that Saturday our recent convert, Steve, baptized one of the Sister Missionaries' investigators!

We've gotten chased by a couple of pit bulls this week.  The first one happened last Monday.  We were on our way to dinner and we saw this pit bull, behind a fence, running at us.  My companion and I both thought, "Man, that pit bull is going to slam into the fence.  Sweet!"  But, the pit bull had dug a hole.  So, when it slipped under the fence, it scared both of us.  I thought, "Oh no!  We're going to die."  But, it stopped chasing us.  Then, another time we saw a pit bull walking on this street we'd turned onto.  When the pit bull saw us, it decided to chase my companion.  It was kinda funny, but, scary at the same time.  Those are my pit bull stories for the week.

Always remember to pray and remember that Heavenly Father and Jesus love you!  Saying your prayers and talking to Heavenly Father about how you feel will make you feel way better.  Never be afraid to ask Heavenly Father for help.
