Week 34 -- 2nd Area -- 3rd Companion -- Apple Valley, CA

January 26, 2015

Last week was a really hard week.  We didn't really get to go out and work.  Elder Tate had headaches that prevented us from doing so.  I had a moment when I got super overwhelmed and I cried.  I realized a lot of things and a bunch of emotions came out.  But, luckily, Elder Tate is super awesome and he helped cheer me up!

One thing that has really helped me while serving in the Ranchos Ward, with Elder Tate, has been priesthood blessings.I've had Elder Tate give me a few blessings and in every single one something was said that I needed to hear.  The blessings also brought me a ton of comfort!  For example, I was extremely nervous about going and casting the evil spirit out.  I got a priesthood blessing and my nervousness went away and I felt so much love and comfort.  We will never be forced to be given a priesthood blessing, but, they will always help us, they're never bad.

So, here's a somewhat crazy story.  There are these recent converts, Danyelle, Seth, & Erin.  They are super awesome!  We hadn't been able to see them for 8 weeks.  We decided that we were going to walk to their house.  Now, their house is super far away.  They live on dirt roads.  So, we decided to walk and we thought it was like a 6-7 mile walk.  Holy cow!  It turned out to be a 10 mile walk!  We kept thinking we were getting close and that we'd get there at the time we thought we would, but we just kept walking and walking!  So, Elder Tate prayed that we'd get a ride and this car pulled up and asked us if we wanted a ride.  So, in the end, we got there and we didn't die.  By then, the day was pretty much over.  Well, just a cool story!

I love you so much!

Week 33 -- 2nd Area -- 3rd Companion -- Apple Valley, CA

January 20, 2015

Well, last week Elder Tate and I were recovering from being sick.  That didn't stop us though from going out and working.  We started the week off with a super awesome district meeting and then just went out and taught people.

We had zone conference which was awesome!  We had the conference with two other zones.  And, we got to see President Hobbs and got trained on a bunch of things.   I also got to see a bunch of missionaries that I know and love.  Elder Tate promised President Hobbs (the mission president) that we would find two new investigators!  The first thought that popped into my head was, "My companion is crazy!"  But, the awesome thing is that we did find two new investigators!

We also went to a house, where the sisters are teaching, and cast out an evil spirit.  It was a super interesting experience.  Here is the story: So, to start off this is the house of some investigators that the sisters in our district are teaching.  Our sisters were talking to us and telling us all the crazy things that were happening.  So, one person attempted to kill him self twice and just every time they'd be at the house they wouldn't get along and there just wasn't any peace.  They also saw some things that scared them, like smoke rising from the ground when no one was smoking.  So, we ended up talking to a member in our ward who's cast out evil spirits before and he just let us know what was going to happen and how things could go.  So, we went to the house.  When we got there the spirit immediately left and all of us just got this feeling of sadness and anger and just that there was no peace.  So, we had the investigators show us around the house, and all we could really do was just try our best to listen to the Holy Ghost on what to do and see how we felt.  All of us felt this weight on our chest.  So, we walked around for like and hour and eventually realized that the evil spirit was running and hiding from us.  So, the three of us talked and decided to go to this one place in the house and Brother Heywood, the member who came with us, raised his right arm to the square and said "In the name of Jesus Christ I command all unrighteous spirits to leave."  It left with no fight and the feeling completely changed and the feelings we'd had at first were gone.  Then, this metal thing next to us made some noise and we heard some noise off in the distance.  The spirit still wasn't back in the home so, we dedicated the house and the spirit filled the home.  We had invited the Holy Ghost back into their home and it had returned since the evil spirit was gone.  After the fact my companion Elder Tate said, "None the less, that was a good learning experience."  What I learned is that the power of the priesthood that we've been given by our Heavenly Father is powerful!  We need to use it righteously!

We finished off the week by helping some non-members move and they became investigators.  Well, I love all of you so much!  Have a great week.  Remember to read your scriptures, it will bless your life even if you just read a verse.  And, remember to pray morning and night and during the day if you're struggling or just feel like you need to pray.  All of this has blessed my life and I know it'll bless yours as well.

Week 32 -- 2nd Area -- 3rd Companion -- Apple Valley, CA

January 12, 2015

Well, this last week was super slow.  Both Elder Tate and I got sick and that absolutely punched a huge whole in our work.  But, we are both doing way better now.

We still managed to get a new investigator.  We did exchanges with the Elders that are in my district and that was pretty good.  It was super tough leading my area for the first time (because we exchanged companions and the Elder with me doesn't work in the same area.  Elder Tate went with his companion to their area, so I was the one who new where to go and who we're visiting and had appointments with).  Everything seemed to fall through.  But, overall it was a good exchange.  On the exchange is where we got the new investigator.  His name is Carl and he is super awesome!  He has a baptismal date set for January 31st.  We gave him the plan of salvation pamphlet and asked him to read it.  At our next lesson he'd read the entire thing, understood it, and loved it.  He didn't have any questions so, we just briefly went over the major points and we ended up having a really good discussion.  That was pretty much it.  We really just had a sick week so that's it.

Read your scriptures.  It'll help you.  I know it will.  Sister Hobbs (the Mission President's wife) told us once that for everyone there is a scripture that was written specifically for them.  She told us that we need to be searching for it until we find it because it'll help us a ton.  Don't get frustrated because it might take a while to find your scripture.  Just don't give up!  The Lord loves each of you so much!

Remember to pray and read the scriptures.  Love y'all!
