Week 56 -- 3rd Area -- 5th Companion -- Hesperia, CA

June 29, 2015

The weeks just keep going by faster and faster.  It's crazy, how fast they go.  This last week was a pretty good week.  We taught our investigator, Cruz, twice and he's doing super good.  His mom has said he can get baptized, but she keeps throwing things at him to make him really think about what he's getting into.  But, Cruz doesn't really seem to be affected by it.  He really wants to get baptized.  The only problem now is we have to get written permission from his mom.  And we're not too sure how things are going to work out.  Our other investigators are doing good, they are slowly but surely moving toward baptism.  Jake, another one of our investigators, is doing pretty good.  He still has to wait for permission from his dad, so that's been a big problem.  His Mom, though, has made some big changes with her attitude toward the whole situation.  She now has more of a desire to figure out what they need to do so that they can get permission from Jake's Dad.  As for right now they are just doing what they can and it's helping them out a good amount.

The Zone is doing super good, everyone is just going out and working super hard and we are starting to see the results of our hard work.  I've seen a huge change in myself.  This past week I had a goal to go out and work hard and I found myself doing that this week and it was totally worth it.

I also found myself realizing a lot of things I need to change. So I'm gonna be working on becoming an even more obedient missionary.  The mission has changed me a ton.  It's shown me what working hard can do, how much the gospel blesses lives, and how important it is to rely upon the Lord for help in all things.

Thank you so much for all that you do.  I love all of you so much.

Week 55 -- 3rd Area -- 5th Companion -- Hesperia, CA

June 22, 2015

Thanks Mom for the update.  Things are going super good for us.  We found couple new investigators last week and we also decided to start biking a little bit.  It's starting to get really hot right now.  And man it's a pain to bike.  I don't know what to talk about.  We just had a really good week.

Our new investigator, Cruz, came to church and really liked it.  He told us afterwards that he really wants to get baptized.  That was super cool!  Other than that, we just had a good week of talking with people and teaching people.

We also had some days where we felt like we were going to melt.  Other than that it was a really good week for us.  We rearranged our apartment and it is way better than what it was before and we also came up with our awesome Zone Theme.  Our theme is "Desert Warriors."  We're gonna give a training on how we are all enlisted.  It's gonna be super cool.

Well, I'm out of things to say.  Keep being awesome!

P.S. Super sorry it's super short this week.

Week 54 -- 3rd Area -- 5th Companion -- Hesperia, CA

June 15, 2015

Well, transfers have come, and I'm staying with my companion.  Our Zone had a lot of changes; two areas got closed down and we went down a companionship in the Zone.  But, we have a Zone of really good missionaries.  Elder Russell and myself are super excited to have this zone!  One of the areas that got closed down was our Ward mates area and with that we are now covering the entire Zone.  The Ward we're over is huge and now that we cover the entire ward we're gonna have to plan smart.  But, we are super excited to have the entire Ward.  We're gonna be super busy this transfer.

Last transfer had a ton of downs and very few ups, but I grew a ton this last transfer.  The thing that I came to realize is the Savior is the only one who truly knows how we feel; and we find the joy that we are looking for only by living the gospel.  Last transfer I found myself the happiest I've ever been and it's because I was more fully living the Gospel. The best thing about our Ward mates area getting closed down is now we have an entire apartment to ourselves and we have so much space now.  We can now have a study room and our bedroom can be separate.  It's super awesome!  We have a ton of space.  It's crazy.  Well that's all that I have, I hope all goes well for y'all.

P.S.  I just remembered that I talked to Elder Tate today and we had a good laugh talking about how our families are now in the same ward.  We're both super excited to see each other when I come home.

Week 53 -- 3rd Area -- 5th Companion -- Hesperia, CA

June 8, 2015

Me and my companion are doing really good, we just had one day last week in which he was just way down, and it made me almost lose it.  But, I said some prayers and I was able to get through it.  We've talked more and as of right now there isn't a ton I can do other than just pray for him to make it through this trial.

The zone is doing really good.  We have a Zone Meeting this Tuesday.   This month we're studying chapter 6 of PMG (Preach My Gospel - a guide to missionary service), so our training is gonna be on "Becoming Like Jesus Christ and How That Helps Us Fulfill Our Purpose."  We're also gonna have two other trainings; one is on virtue and the other is on diligence.  We're super pumped for Zone Meeting.  The Zone has changed a ton.  It was a very good Zone when I got here and now we've got a Zone of hard working missionaries!  It's been awesome being able to see the change!

The two missionaries that  we've been struggling with have been doing really good.  The one that wants to be obedient has got the companionship to make changes.  They've also been home on time pretty much everyday for over a week.  It's been a huge stress relief not having to worry about them.

Last week was rough, but it was a really good week.  I got to go on exchanges with one of our District Leaders, in the Spanish Ward, for a day and man it was awesome.  Luckily, we taught people that they teach in English.  I had to give the anointing part of a blessing in spanish and man that was tough, but it was good.  We had some really good Spanish food that was was super spicy, but, I ate it anyways. It was super awesome being able to serve in the Spanish Ward for one day, although, I'm super glad that I'm not a spanish speaking missionary.

I keep in contact with Elder Tate.  I just forget, but, that's super awesome that his family is moving into our Ward.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for that Elder (Elder Taylor Wilhelm -- an Elder coming to my mission soon that Elder & Sister Hintze know about through one of their daughters.  He is in their daughters Ward and he joined the church 2 years ago.  Sister Hintze told my mom that he's a really great kid and has had a lot of trials prior to coming on his mission.  He has a very strong testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel.) when he comes in next transfer, I'm super excited to meet him.

Thanks for all that you do.  You guys are awesome!

Week 52 -- 3rd Area -- 5th Companion -- Hesperia, CA

June 1, 2015

This last week was just a super awesome week!  We were doing really good and then Thursday rolled around.  It was going good and then Elder Russell said, "We're gonna go and try this person, but, before them we're gonna knock all their neighbors' doors."  So, I said, "Okay."  So, we went and did it and when we got out of the car, man, Elder Russell was walking at a jogging pace.  And, to be honest, I didn't want to walk that fast.  So, I just let him walk and he'd have to wait for me to catch up every time before knocking.  Well, we found one person that said that we could come back, and that was it.  We tried the less-active member and no one was home, so, we went and tracted a few more houses and then we went to the car and went to dinner.  Well, Elder Russell's fast walking continued for the rest of the day and I just couldn't bring myself to tell him.  So, we went on the rest of the day and we got to teach a less-active member that we'd been trying to teach for a while and the lesson went well.

That night at planning Elder Russell let me know why he decided to tract and also why he was walking so fast.  And so I let him know how I felt about that, and that led to us just having a debate about what we should do.  Well, that didn't end very well for us.  It led to us not being super happy toward each other and led to us sitting in silence for 30-45 minutes.  We finally talked and we decided that it was time for us to make some big changes to who we are as missionaries.  So, I said "It's time for us to really live the gospel, to do the things we tell everyone to do."  Well, that helped and we still talked for a long time after it.  Elder Russell told me that he was struggling.  So I did what I could to help him.

Well, needless to say, we are doing great now.  We've both really felt the gospel working in us since we recommitted ourselves to living the gospel on Thursday.  I've seen huge changes in me.  I've had a desire to go tracting, which is something that I normally don't have because I hate tracting.  But, I've just had a desire to go out and work hard.  I've learned that if you really try and live the gospel that it really does change you.  The Lord is always there for us at all times.

Well, the week, after Thursday, was pretty rough.  We didn't teach any lessons after Thursday.  It was just rough, but, I would have to say we probably grew the most those days.  It was awesome.  We also re-listened to all of the conference talks and it took us just under week to listen to all 32 talks.  This last general conference was awesome!!!

This week that we've just started should be a really good week for us we have a few appointments set up with potential investigators.  We're super excited to be able to teach these two people.

Thank you so much for everything that y'all do.  Keep being awesome.  I love all of you so very much.  Have a great week!
