Well this last week was a super good week for us. We found a new investigator and he is super awesome. He runs track for the local high school and is super good. He's currently the best in his region. He absolutely loves the gospel. The first lesson with Gianni (his name) we were all over the place. We didn't really explain things super simply, and because of that we had a hard time committing him to baptism. By the end of the lesson he said yes to being baptized. But, it was all because of the member we brought to the lesson, Jesse who is actually one of Gianni's friends. Jesse totally saved the lesson. I turned to him and asked him to say everything we taught during that lesson in 10 sentences or less and he did it and it was super powerful! Our next lesson with him happened on splits and I was with another member and we went back over the first lesson and we just really simply taught it and that helped out a ton. So, that's Gianni.
This last week, for me personally, was tough. I had a hard time feeling like a missionary and feeling the spirit. I also had a hard time talking with people. It seemed like everyone we talked with Elder Russell would talk most of the time and I would just say a few things here and there. So, that was super hard and discouraging for me.
But, once again, I learned that if we turn everything over to the Lord things get better. I started to do that closer to the end of the week. Once I did that I found myself being a lot happier, and I found myself feeling more like a missionary. I still struggled with talking to people, but, it was made a little bit easier to carry. There is a scripture in Mosiah 24: 15 (this is found in The Book of Mormon) which says:
"And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions."
I know that to be true. The Lord is always with us when we are going through a hard time. The hard part is using the load (trial) to give us spiritual traction. I've come to know that the Savior is always there for us. He paid the price so that we could change and grow.
I was reading in preach my gospel today and this sentence really struck me. It says: "Jesus did not eliminate our personal responsibility. He forgives our sins and helps us through hard times when we accept Him, repent, and obey his commandments." (Preach My Gospel pg. 61 here is the link:
https://www.lds.org/manual/preach-my-gospel-a-guide-to-missionary-service/lesson-3-the-gospel-of-jesus-christ?lang=eng) That is so true! All it takes is for us to realize we need His help and to get His help. All it takes is for us to submit to His will and for us to live His gospel. It's so simple, but yet so hard for us.
I can testify to you that if we just do the simple things that all will be made easy. I love the Lord and I strive with all of my heart to follow Him and to become like Him. Becoming like the Savior is the only way for us to return and live with Him.
I love all of you so much.
