Week 78 -- 5th Area -- 8th Companion -- Spring Valley Lakes, CA

December 7, 2015

It is super crazy to think that in a short six months I will be home.  The mission has truly gone by fast.  And to be honest it has gone by way too fast. I keep finding myself thinking about how short a period of time I have left. If the last 18 months has gone by fast then the next six is going to go by extremely fast. I'm excited and sad that I only have six months left.

This last week started off a bit rough. We had a couple of bad days where Elder McLaws was way down on himself.  To be quite honest it really got to me this week, because I think it was that night of the first day.  What started it was Elder McLaws decided to go to the bathroom in a place that wasn't very smart or a good place to go and I got frustrated with him.  So, to save us from arguing, I just didn't talk to him for like an hour.  Then, what made things boil over was our poorly done Potentials Section of the Area Book.  So, that night was just awful.  Then, in the morning I was still down and frustrated and things were just hard.  So, while Elder McLaws was in the shower, I read Elder Dallin H. Oaks talk from general conference. After doing that I felt a lot better because it really brought the spirit back. I then went and got in the shower and when I got out I saw Elder McLaws sitting writing what seemed to be a letter and that kind of frustrated me. So, I said something to him and then how he was feeling showed and I felt to bad for saying something and for the night before. What really did it for me was seeing him cry and seeing how much pain he was in. So, I felt impressed to apologize for how I had been and then to have him tell me how he was feeling. And, man, he has got a lot going through his mind.  A lot of his problems stem from his parents divorce. It has really scared him.  They went through a pretty brutal divorce.  He had a lot of the feelings that he had when the divorce was final come back, so all I did was just listen to him and hear him out.  It really helped him. I then gave him a blessing and all I can remember from that blessing is just feeling super tired after I was done.

We finished the week on a lot better of a note.  We've made a lot of goals and things that we plan on doing.  Things should be way better for us this week. I've grown and changed so much especially in the last 2 months.  Training truly makes you become a better missionary and person.  I'm really starting to realize that things go the best when I'm fully relying on the Savior. Especially in the hard times.

On the bright side of things, we found a new investigator!!! His name is Steven and he was a former investigator.  He stopped investigating because his family wasn't getting involved.  But, he is now back and he told us a completely different excuse.  But, he is definitely ready to really move forward with things this time and his wife is showing some interest. So, that is super exciting!

Other than that we've just been doing a lot of knocking doors and talking with people.  We've been using pass along cards for the new Christmas initiative that the church came out with (A Savior is Born).  It's super awesome! We've almost handed a hole pack of probably fifty cards out. You can watch it if you go to christmas.mormon.org, it's really good.

Hope all is going well.  I love all of you and keep you in my prayers.

Love,

Elder Peter H. Niceler
